Directional drilling has revolutionized the oil and gas industry, allowing us to access reserves that would be considered previously unreachable. We can increase well productivity by maximizing contact with the reservoir, sometimes drilling horizontally through the pay zone for thousands of feet. This technique also allows us to access reserves beneath sensitive surface areas or offshore locations that would be impractical or impossible to reach with vertical wells. From an environmental perspective, directional drilling is a game-changer. By drilling multiple wells from a single pad, we drastically reduce the surface footprint of our operations. Drilling this way means less disruption to local ecosystems and communities. While the initial costs of directional drilling can be higher than traditional vertical drilling, the long-term cost-effectiveness is better. Higher production rates and the ability to drain reservoirs more efficiently often result in a better return on investment.
